Help for Adults in the Workplace

Access to Work is a Jobcentre Plus work grant scheme, which can assist you if you are dyslexic and in paid employment or on a Job/Work Trial. The Access to Work scheme provides you and your employer with advice, support and financial assistants to help with work place adjustments.

The Access to Work grant might pay towards a specialist support worker or Assistive Technology. To be eligible for the Access to Work grant, you must be in paid employment, self-employed, or have a confirmed start date for a new job. You must also be over 16 and live and work in England, Scotland or Wales.

The amount of help you can receive from the Access to Work grant will vary depending on how long you have been employed, what specialist support you need and whether you are self-employed.

The Access to Work grant pays a proportion of the costs of support if all of the following apply to you:

  • You have been employed for a minimum of six weeks
  • Are able to demonstrate Assistive Tech can improve your ability to do your job
  • Are self-employed (in this case the grant may cover 100% of your workplace adjustments.)

If you feel that the type of work you do is affected by Dyslexia, contact your regional Access to Work contact center to check eligibility. You can also ask the Disability Employment Adviser at your local Job Centre Plus.
