It’s that time of year when we take a look at what big screen adventures, Hollywood’s dyslexic community have in store for us. Last year was a bumper year of output for dyslexic directors, producers and actors; my favorite being Keanu Reeves’ moody portrayal of John Wick, in the film of the same name.

The Hateful 8 – Quentin Tarantino

2016 has gotten off to a controversial start with the long awaited return of Quentin Tarantino and the release of The Hateful 8. The Hateful 8 opened to mixed reviews, and due to the film being shot on the antiquated 70mm film format and Tarantino’s trade mark un-PC script, The Hateful 8 will be absent from many UK cinemas.

If you’re in to it, and can find a screening, The Hateful 8 is still out on general(ish) release. If not, there are still loads of great dyslexic made films coming this year that you won’t want to miss.

Hail, Caesar! – George Clooney | Channing Tatum

George Clooney and Channing Tatum team up with the Coen brothers in this comic commentary on 1950s Hollywood. The film follows legendary spin doctor and ‘fixer’ Eddie Mannix who has to cover up various crimes, including the kidnap of the most famous actor in the world, Bad Whitlock (Clooney). Hail Caesar is currently slated for a February release. Watch this space for more details and a more in depth review in the next few weeks.

Misconduct – Anthony Hopkins

Misconduct follows the story of Ben, an ambitious young lawyer who takes on a big case against a powerful and ruthless executive of a large pharmaceutical company, he soon finds himself involved in a case of blackmail and corruption. This film’s heavy weight cast see’s Anthony Hopkins go head to head with Al Pacino as the films two main protagonists fight it out in a battle of wits.

Misconduct is also slated for a February release.

The BFG – Steven Spielberg

Steven Spielberg is one of Hollywood’s most versatile directors. From Schindler’s List to Indiana Jones, whatever the project, Spielberg’s portrayal always seems to hit the right tone and sentiment. However, it’s when he is allowed to let his imagination run into overdrive that we see Spielberg at his best. From the looks of the trailer, The BFG looks like one of those occasions where Spielberg has been given license to explore the furthest reaches of his right brained approach to film making.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot – Billy Bob Thornton

The multi-talented Billy Bob Thornton stars in this comic portrayal of the true story of what happens when a clueless American journalist arrives in Afghanistan. This dark comedy recounts Kim Barker’s experiences covering conflicts in Afghanistan and Pakistan, her fish-out-of-water experience and the challenges of being a woman in wartime Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Suicide Squad – Will Smith

For those of a certain age the name Will Smith is synonymous with tea time comedy on BBC2. For those of us who’d rather forget our age it conjures up images of dubious 80’s hip hop Fashion. Will Smith is a jack of all trades when it comes to Hollywood careers, but behind all the hype it’s easy to forget, that when cast properly, Smith is a pretty accomplished actor. Suicide Squad see’s Smith take on the complex character of DC Comics anti-hero Deadshot.

Other films to look out for this year:

Neon Demon – Keanu Reeves
When aspiring model Jesse moves to Los Angeles, her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will take any means necessary to get what she has.

LBJ – Woody Harrelson
The story of U.S. President Lyndon Baines Johnson from his young days in West Texas to the White House.

Black Dog Red Dog – Whoopi Goldberg
Black Dog Red Dog follows the life of poet Stephen Dobyns as he deals with his relationships with women and with mortality, from his childhood to his time as a young journalist and then his transition to poetry.

Passengers – Keanu Reeves
A spacecraft traveling to a distant colony planet and transporting thousands of people has a malfunction in one of its sleep chambers. As a result, a single passenger is awakened 60 years early. Faced with the prospect of growing old and dying alone, he eventually decides to wake up a second passenger.
